THE BIG Golden Guitar began its makeover, with staff descending on the iconic monument on Tuesday afternoon. It is getting a touch up ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Tamworth Country Music Festival, which kicks off in January next year. The event is expected to draw a huge crowd, especially since it will be one of the first large-scale music festivals held after the strict COVID-19 restrictions end in New South Wales. In an effort that Tamworth Regional Council has described as a “gigantic task”, the guitar will be cleaned up, undergo minor repairs and finally be spray painted in its iconic gold color. The Council said Tamworth’s extreme conditions have caused the guitar to fade and weather over the years, which is also part of the reason it is receiving an upgrade.
