Thomas Tuchel explained how to fix Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku problem with Blues away on Mason Mount Street – Jake Stokes

Romelu Lukaku made just 18 touches and failed to register a single shot as Chelsea fell to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge losing 1-0.

The Belgian’s lack of service has exposed a new issue for Thomas Tuchel to tackle after trying a 3-5-2 that highlighted the team’s missing link between the midfielder and the attack in transitions, formerly occupied by Mason Mount.

The absence of the creative technician coupled with a new form has closed the door on various passageways starving Lukaku of service, highlighting an issue Chelsea will need to address if Tuchel had neither Mount nor Kai Havertz in his strike force.

Havertz was put on the line in the second half to fill that missing link which simultaneously developed the Blues into a more competitive team going forward.

Jai Mcintosh, our social producer, spoke with Chelsea carefree correspondents Anita Abayomi and Daniel Childs, to explore who could weld the missing link between Lukaku and the transitioning midfielder amid Mason Mount’s absence due to injury, live on the Chelsea carefree show via’sChelsea Facebook page.

The trio shortlisted a pair of names that could play an important role in dealing with Tuchel’s problem at Chelsea, before Childs opened up the discussion by noting Havertz’s promising performance against City.

“Havertz looked decent when he came on against City on Saturday,” he began. “He won’t be Mason Mount because he has a different player profile.

“There’s a lot of subtlety in Kai’s play; he’s someone who likes to drift through space while Mason is someone who’s going to be more involved in building up Chelsea’s attacks. Kai is more of a finisher that a creator of what we have That could change with Rom ‘in the team.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to prove something and we think Kai will be the guy to replace Mount for now.”

Kai Havertz has gone from a peripheral figure to one of the first names on Chelsea’s squad sheet

Anita added to the debate, highlighting Christian Pulisic’s name before insisting that Chelsea need the United States captain to come back from an injury as soon as possible.

“We need a player like Pulisic,” she said. “A player who adds a different dynamic and advantage to our team. Havertz can be the ghost of this team and I love how he can work his way through crazy spaces, but I need someone more direct, it’s Pulisic.

“It is this player who gives us this advantage but he is not in 37% of the time [due to injury]. It’s so damaging to our team. “
