Pep Guardiola will miss Manchester City’s FA Cup third round clash with Swindon Town after testing positive for Covid-19 as seven players will also miss the trip.
City announced Thursday that Guardiola and his assistant Juanma Lillo have tested positive for Covid, with seven players and 14 backstage staff isolated as an epidemic hit the club this week. Assistant Rodolfo Borrell will take control of City, with phone help from Guardiola, and he said in his pre-match press conference that it would be the “easiest squad selection Of the season due to the limited options available.
Usually this would be an opportunity for City to give playing time to a number of academy players, but Borrell has confirmed that some of the players affected are also from the academy.
Swindon is looking for promotion to Ligue 2 and took a 5-2 victory over rivals Northampton last time around. Borrell said City expected a tough game, despite the gap between the teams, due to the competitive nature of the FA Cup.
