Sturgill Simpson cancels dates for 2021 tour

A week after having to cancel several of his shows, including a multi-night stint at Webster Hall in New York City, Sturgill Simpson canceled the rest of his tour dates for 2021. The country singer-guitarist posted on Instagram that he had dealt with serious vocal cord problems that left his future as a performer uncertain.

“It turns out that I unfortunately had a hemorrhage / rupture in my vocal cords after all,” he wrote, posting a scan of his larynx which showed the injury. “I’m currently receiving the best treatment available and should make a full recovery, but it’s going to be a long, hot minute before I can get back on stage.”

Simpson went on to pay tribute to his fans and the tour stops he had previously missed, including the Outlaw Music Festival shows in the Atlanta and Baltimore areas, as well as headlining dates coming to New York and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

“I’m sorry for everyone who had tickets for the remaining shows and to thank everyone who has supported me over the years,” he wrote. “It was an incredibly fun, rewarding and educational trip.
