I know I’m fortunate enough to have the funniest job on the planet – being able to sit down with some of the biggest stars in country music – and trust me when I say I don’t take a day for acquired.
This week we got to sit down with Scotty McCreery. Now when Scotty walks into the room he has a charm in him that makes you feel like you all are and you’ve been good friends forever. That being said, he made it easy for us to get in and have some fun with him.
Listen for yourself during Ep. 4 of Taste of country nights, on demand:
One thing is true about Scotty McCreery: His fans are very determined to consume his new music as soon as they can – and, sometimes, even before they’re supposed to. Scotty told us how his fans got the album title, cover art and release date for his new album, Same truck, a whole month before they were even supposed to know he was going out.
He also told us how he made a whole record and ready to go, but ended up scratching it at the last minute and writing a brand new one. Then he explained how he and Darius Rucker recently played golf together. Darius is widely regarded as the best golfer in country music, but today we’re not going to spoil it for you, but “Hootie” had to pay!
At the end of our interview with Scotty McCreery, we play our 60-Second Song Challenge with him. You will be amazed at which ones he missed and which ones he passed!
We also had the chance to sit down and talk to country music newcomer Drew Parker. He is also a songwriter and has written songs including “Homemade” by Jake Owen. I asked her about her favorite line in this song – I’m always curious about that stuff – and her response was amazing and unexpected.
Drew is also a really good friend of Luke Combs, so we got to talk to him about shotgun beers with Luke, how they write songs together and more. At the end of the interview, you will understand why he is already successful, and will become even more so in the future.
