A South Wales band with a new sound and a new member have “amazing” returns on their latest album.
The Autumn Killers – consisting of Rob Reece of Caerphilly (vocals, bass, piano), Duncan Richardson of Newport (guitar, backing vocals, keyboards) and Graeme Hoy (drums and percussion) – recently released Dark side which was voted “Album of the Month” by Great Music Stories Radio, with the rockers appearing on Kerrang Radio, Hard Rock Hell Radio and having a CD sampler with Powerplay Magazine.
The Autumn Killers started out in 2019 as a “basic straight rock band” and when they started recording their debut EP, Covid struck, hitting the live music industry hard.
“While we were locked out, we started writing remotely, exchanging ideas via email,” said singer and bassist Rob Reece.
“It gave us more time and space to experiment. Duncan [Richardson] has extensive knowledge of synthesizers and keyboards and has been using them for years.
“We started to mix those elements into the songs, which basically created the sound you hear now: still a rock band but incorporating influences from other genres and more use of synths, samples and music. drum loops.
“The fan reaction to the album has been amazing; people really seem to be adjusting to our new direction and our new sound. ”
Dark side was inspired by the lockdown and what happened globally amid the Covid pandemic, with the title inspired by the virus. It presents new drummer Graeme Hoy, with the group “very proud” of the final product.
The album includes 12 tracks, including singles One of the five – which took first place in the Top 10 tracks on Banks Radio Australia – and Do you want it with three more singles to be released from the album in 2022 before the group returns to the studio.
The Fall Killers enjoyed the live music slowly making a comeback, with 2021 highlights including:
- Forest Fire Festival in Scotland;
- Planet Rockstock managed by Planet Rock Radio;
- Concert at the Cardiff City Football Stadium with over 5,000 fans.
Dark side is available on all digital platforms and a physical copy can also be purchased from the group’s website www.theautumnkillers.uk
