Richmond will field a completely new squad on Sunday with six inclusions for the game against Adelaide, including their skipper Trent Cotchin and leading midfielders Dion Prestia and Shai Bolton, while once again dropping small Prime Minister striker Daniel Rioli.
Meanwhile, Carlton made a statement during the selection, dropping former skipper Marc Murphy to include Jack Martin as Sydney ditched father-son striker Nick Blakey.
But the big changes have come to the reigning prime ministers with two-time Prime Minister Tiger Josh Caddy – who has not played in the 2020 flag – also selected with ruckman Callum Coleman-Jones and Mabior Chol as the Tigers look to return to the list of winners after their loss to the Brisbane Lions.
While the return of key midfielders will make a huge difference for Richmond, they will face the Crows without key clashes with forward Tom Lynch having knee surgery and defenseman David Astbury struggling with an Achilles problem. Marlion Pickett is suspended, Patrick Naish has a hamstring injury while Jack Ross and Rioli have been left out.
The Crows made no changes to the squad that upset previously undefeated Melbourne in Round 10.
Carlton lost Lachie Plowman on suspension and dropped Murphy with Levi Casboult and Martin nominated to play in Sydney. The Swans will be ruckman-less in form Tom Hickey who continues to injure his knee with Robbie Fox injured in the eye and Blakey has been abandoned.
Sydney included Callum Sinclair, Kaiden Brand and Jay McInerney for a game that gives them a chance to strengthen their position in the top eight.
Orazio Fantasia has been included to replace veteran Hamish Hartlett who was a surprise omission from the Port Adelaide team and Andy Brayshaw is back for the Dockers who lost forward Matt Taberner to injury.
Essendon’s main defenseman Aaron Francis withdrew from the game against the West Coast on Saturday night due to illness, with Brandon Zerk-Thatcher replacing him in the side.
