Dan + Shay win favorite country duo or group at 2021 AMAs

Dan + Shay were named Favorite Country Duo or Group at the 2021 American Music Awards. Their victory was announced during a pre-show live stream on TikTok ahead of the awards ceremony on Sunday night (November 21), as well as ‘a number of other winners in gender specific, non-televised categories.

To win in their category, Dan + Shay beat Florida Georgia Line, Lady A, Zac Brown Band and Old Dominion. Gabby Barrett, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan are among the other country artists named among the first winners. Many more will also be heading to the show tonight as performers. Underwood takes the stage with Jason Aldean for their hit duo, “If I Didn’t Love You”, and Kane Brown, Walker Hayes and Mickey Guyton are also on the bill.

As they celebrated their victory, Dan + Shay thanked fans on social media, recording a video of themselves which was posted on the American Music Awards Instagram Stories.

“We love you all. This award means more to us because it was voted on by the fans,” says Dan Smyers.

“To all of our fans, thank you very much for helping us get here,” adds Shay Mooney, band member. “We love you. It’s been amazing seeing you all on the road. Plus, I can’t wait to watch AMAs tonight as Cardi B is the host.”

Superstar rapper “WAP” will helm the Sunday night show, as the rest of the 2021 AMA winners are announced live. The show will air from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. CT on ABC.
