Country music legend Saengsuree Rungroj dies of Covid-19

Legendary Thai country music singer Saengsuree Rungroj has death from complications of Covid-19, one week after being admitted to hospital for treatment. He was 68 years old.

The announcement of the death of the country music stars was posted Friday afternoon on Dara Pappayon magazine’s Facebook page.

Country music singer Saengsuree was being treated at Samut Sakhon Hospital after testing positive for the virus on August 31. Doctors at the hospital said his condition had deteriorated and he had infected his lungs. He was then admitted to the intensive care unit and put on a ventilator.

On September 7, doctors removed him from the ventilator and the singer no longer needed a feeding tube. On September 9, she was given rice porridge with a nurse holding her hand to help her feed herself. Nurses said he had started talking and his condition seemed to be improving.

He had no fever, his pulse was normal, and his appetite improved.

The country music legend suddenly took a turn for the worse on Friday afternoon and all efforts to save his life failed.

Her family said they would take her body to Wat Bang Phli Yai Klang in Bang Phli district in Samut Prakan for funeral rites.

Saengsuree was immensely popular with country music fans in Thailand. His greatest hits include “Hae khan mak” (gifts from a groom to the bride’s family) and “Rak sao sua lai” (loving a woman in a striped shirt).
