CONCORD, NC (WBTV) – This summer, Charlotte Motor Speedway (Speedway) and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC), as well as Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC), raised nearly $ 30,000 to help improve food security for local families through Speedway’s Drive-in to Drive Out Hunger film series.
All proceeds, totaling more than $ 14,310, from the Speedway movie drive-through series have supported local organizations and their initiatives working to improve food security. Blue Cross NC pledged dollar for dollar, bringing the total amount raised to over $ 28,620 for nearly one in five households in Mecklenburg County that is considered food insecure.
This collaboration builds on Blue Cross NC’s ongoing efforts to address critical non-medical health factors, particularly food safety.
“At Blue Cross NC, we’re committed to improving the health and well-being of all people in North Carolina, and a big part of health is food safety,” said Reagan Greene Pruitt, vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement at Blue Cross NC. “We are proud to support this collaborative effort and join forces with Charlotte Motor Speedway and generous community members in efforts to alleviate hunger throughout the Charlotte area.
The drive-ins are part of a larger campaign with the Speedway called Drive Out Hunger, with events scheduled throughout the year including food drives for campers, canned food collections at the entrance and appearances from the Pace Car brand that encourages fans to donate to help “drive out hunger.”
“Our partnership with Blue Cross NC transcends sport and shows what is really possible when entities work together to make a real impact in their communities,” said Greg Walter, executive vice president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “What started as an idea to bring COVID-safe fun to the highway in the form of drive-thru movies – thanks to the creativity and generosity of our friends at Blue Cross NC – has become a concerted effort to enrich the life of residents facing food insecurity. and help make a meaningful difference.
Fans can still participate in these programs and help make an impact on food security. All donations collected throughout the year will go to local community partners through Speedway Children’s Charities.
