Centerville High School Jazz Band to Perform at Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

CENTERVILLE – The Centerville High School jazz band will be in the national spotlight this Thanksgiving with a performance in Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

The group’s performance in the parade was originally announced in April 2019, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the performance has been postponed until this year.

Amara Jain, senior of Centerville, told News Center 7’s James Rider that the group was excited about the upcoming performance and the opportunity to represent the whole state.

“It’s really just a dream come true honestly,” Jain said.

Nevaeh Haskins, senior from Centerville, called the opportunity to participate in the parade “unreal”.

“I still can’t believe it, honestly, to this day. I’m grateful and so lucky to be able to go, ”Haskins said.

Jain said the group spends most of the season competing and called it a “really intense process” so they were prepared for training and up to the occasion on a national stage.

“It’s always so intense, but I think we have a bigger goal that we have to reach now,” said Jain.

The group began preparations this week. To prepare, they walk around the school, finally taking some distance. There are 2.5 miles of public viewing along the parade route this year and the group wants to make sure they get off on the right foot.

In addition to building stamina, the band members said they were learning new songs to play on Thanksgiving. They want to be their best on the national stage.

“The star’s actual performance in front of Macy’s is 75 seconds of pure airtime, which is a lot in this business,” said Brandon Barrometti, director of the CHS group.

Barrometti said the delay in when the group was initially selected to play meant that two senior classes missed the opportunity. He said he hopes he can go this year makes sense for this year’s senior class.

“We really hope this performance means a lot to these seniors and they fell like they were part of that, and they’re a big reason we’re here,” Barrometti said.

Haskins said the opportunity to perform makes her feel grateful for everything, every day.

“I’m just taking this opportunity to be really grateful because I’m so blessed to be going, now that this is really happening,” Haskins said.
