Around The Nest is the weekly podcast of the Toronto Blue Jays, hosted by Tyler Zickel of the Vancouver Canadiens (high-A). In this episode, Zick is joined by Pat Malacaro of the Buffalo Bisons (triple-A), Tyler Murray of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (double-A) and Andrew Thriffiley of the Dunedin Blue Jays (low-A) in Lakeland, Florida.
In our penultimate episode of the season, Thriffiley gives us the behind-the-scenes information on Trent Palmer, who threw another seven-innings hit for the Dunedin Blue Jays, two days less than a month after his first for the Dunedins. Blue jays. He is also heard giving props to PK Morris for his first base defense.
In the Buffalo triple A, the Bisons won the Northwast Division champions, but were somewhat disappointed that there were no immediate celebrations due to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs losing after the game. Bisons. They’ve won 14 of their last 17 and pitching carried the team, with new guys like Gregory Polanco, Bowden Francis and Zach Logue contributing in various ways.
The Fisher Cats have had a bunch of canceled ball games due to a COVID incident and contact tracing protocols, but they’re back on the pitch now with a bunch of new faces, including Spencer Horwitz, who has been promoted after a 27-game streak with a high-A hit.
The Canadiens aren’t making the playoffs, but Phil Clarke has won back-to-back Player of the Week honors, and Zick talks about some of the guys he says will start in doubles A next season, like Tanner Morris, Will Robertson and converted wide receiver Hagen Danner, who looks really good in the bullpen with his’ 90s heat and break ball combo. We also wonder if top prospect Adam Kloffenstein did enough to make the jump to New Hampshire in 2022.
