The Rangers (19-24) are one to watch.
Joey Gallo is going to get a lot of buzz if this trend continues.
Too early to tell on the nationals. It is far too early to say all of this, honestly and obviously. But the Nats are only four games back in their division.
The Rockies stink and have a new GM. More moves there wouldn’t surprise me.
Q: What could this Blues-Avalanche series look like if Colton Parayko was himself this season? It’s admirable that he played from injury, but he just doesn’t look good.
A: He hasn’t had more than three hits in any of the last 10 games, nor more than three blocks in any of the 13. Has scored just one goal since late January. It’s been pretty clear for a while now that he’s doing his best but not looking his best physically. I agree with you that it’s a different team when it’s limited. The defense is really suffering.
Q: Is anyone else concerned about Matt Carpenter’s utilization rate? The team seem to put a lot of stock in their circuits and ignore everything else.
A: I guess we see different things.
Carpenter fell to ninth on the at-bats team as his use was reduced and will be at least 10th once Harrison Bader is further removed from his delayed start due to injury. The only non-pitchers with fewer bats than Carpenter are the backup receiver (Andrew Knizner) and the foremost defensive infielder (Edmundo Sosa). Justin Williams, the other left-handed option on the bench, has 15 more beaters so far than Carpenter. Carpenter has only started four times this month, and that hasn’t changed dramatically, even after the shortstopP aul DeJong hit the injured list.
