Balaklava Blues raises C$500,000 for Ukraine

Balaklava Blues, a Ukrainian-Canadian folk-black band, raised C$500,000 for Ukraine through concerts and charity events.

The group’s press service told Ukrinform.

“Balaklava Blues are now the most active Canadian band supporting Ukraine globally. In four and a half months of war, they have raised over C$500,000 through concerts and charity events,” said said the press service.

He added that for the members of the group, Mark Marczyk and Marichka Marczyk, the war in Ukraine is part of their life because their brothers serve in the Ukrainian armed forces and some of their relatives died near Kyiv. They have helped Ukrainians find temporary refuge in Canada.

The group has given dozens of charity concerts in Europe, Canada and America. Last week, Balaklava Blues gave a charity performance on the main stage of one of Europe’s biggest festivals, Colors of Ostrava, in the Czech Republic. Their performance brought together 60,000 spectators.

The news service also reported that Balaklava Blues created a video for the song “Swallow”, dedicating the song to women who were forced to leave their homes with their children due to the Russian invasion.

Balaklava Blues is a band created by an ethnic Ukrainian from Toronto, Mark, and Marichka, originally from Kyiv. They met in 2014 on the Maidan in Kyiv. They start a family and become the authors of powerful musical and theatrical projects. They live in Canada.
