11-year-old girl who fought kidnapper said she coated him with blue ‘slime’ to help police

The 11-year-old Florida girl who fought back in a kidnapping attempt earlier this week said she coated some of the blue “slime” she was playing with so that police could more easily locate the suspect.

His plan worked.

“I was able to put the slime on his upper arm and a bit on his forearm,” Alyssa told NBC’s “TODAY” in an interview that aired Thursday.

“I knew it might be better proof if the cops found him,” Alyssa said, adding that her quick thinking was inspired while watching “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” with her mother.

She had mixed the homemade “slime” with blue paint while waiting for the bus near her Escambia County home on Tuesday morning when the man pulled up in a white car and ran towards her.

“The man got out of his vehicle with a knife, came towards me and I tried to run but he caught up with me,” Alyssa said.

Home surveillance video of the attempted kidnapping that helped lead police to the suspect’s home shows the man attempted to transport Alyssa to his car before tripping and running away without her.

“She fought and she never gave up,” Sheriff Chip Simmons said later at a press conference.

Alyssa told authorities the same white car approached her two weeks ago and the driver attempted to speak to her. She reported this incident to her parents and the school principal.

Now she said she felt “brave, proud – excited too. Courageous and proud of me, but most of all proud of me.”

And she said that “SVU” main character Olivia Benson would be proud, too. She was saying “probably” you are brave and good job, “Alyssa said.

Mariska Hargitay, who played Benson for more than two decades, wrote on Instagram Thursday that she was “honored” to be part of Alyssa’s story.

“You are a brave, strong and intelligent young lady. I think the SVU team may need to add some slime to their crime fighting gear! Take good care of yourself and each other. With all my love , your number one fan, Mariska, “wrote.

The suspect, Jared Paul Stanga, 30, is charged with attempted child abduction and aggravated assault and battery and is being held on $ 1,505,000 bond. His lawyer declined to comment.

Alyssa’s mother, Amber Bonal, said her courageous daughter had “always been very mature and very intelligent”.

“She’s very modest about it, she’s not used to all this extra attention.”
